| biography:
| Bandleader, born in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania, USA. He played trombone in college, and with his own band had a first hit record with ‘Somebody Stole My Gal’ (1923). The band toured the Midwest and settled in Chicago (1929); he became popular on radio and recorded many hits throughout the 1930s. After serving in World War 2, he formed a successful new band, but his popularity eventually declined, and in the 1950s he worked as a disc jockey and band agent. |
