| Television executive, born in Los Angeles, California, USA, the father of Sigourney Weaver. A radio writer and producer, he served as a Young & Rubicam advertising manager in the 1940s. Joining National Broadcasting Company (1949), he became president (1953–5) and later chairman, creating the Today and Tonight shows. In 1956 he returned to advertising, later founding Subscription Television in Los Angeles. |
