| Jazz saxophonist, born in Newark, New Jersey, USA. He studied music at New York University, then played with the Art Blakey Jazz Messengers (1959–63) and Miles Davis (1964–70), during the period of the trumpeter's first experiments in electric jazz-rock fusion. He then co-founded the quintet Weather Report, which performed from 1971 until the mid-1980s. Since then, he has continued in the electric jazz style, playing tenor and soprano saxophones at the head of small combos. |
