| Art historian and writer, born in Pontiac, Illinois, USA. He studied at Indiana University (1955 BA; 1957 MA) and Columbia University (1958–60 PhD). Regarded as a leading historian of American sculpture, he taught at the University of Delaware (1960) and published many works, including Sculpture in America: The Colonial Period to the Present (1984). |
