| Journalist and writer, born in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. He was a longtime Paris correspondent for newspapers from the Chicago Tribune (1927–57) to the Washington Post (1957–69). With The Food of France (1958), he launched a second, perhaps more memorable, career as a food writer, and other works include the international dictionary Food (1980). |
