| Typographer, book illustrator, and graphic artist, born in Richmond, Virginia, USA. He studied at the Art Students League in New York, then set up a studio there in 1932 and pursued a career as a graphic artist, book illustrator and typographer, and book designer. He illustrated many classic texts, designed two admired typefaces, Lydian and Trajanus, and wrote several books on typography. During his later career he was artist in residence at the University of Richmond, his alma mater. |
