| biography:
| Automobile manufacturer, born in Wamego, Kansas, USA. He left the American Locomotive Co in 1912 to become works manager of the Buick Motor Co, and became president there (1916–21). He later served as president of the Willys-Overland and Maxwell Motor Co which became the Chrysler Corp in 1925. In 1928 he bought Dodge Brothers, Inc, and introduced the Plymouth motor car which had the industry's first high-compression engine. When he retired (1935), Chrysler Corp was the second largest automobile manufacturer in the world. His autobiography, The Life of an American Working Man, was published in 1937. |
