| Cricketer, born in Dover, Kent, SE England, UK. In his long career as a Gloucestershire player he scored over 50 000 runs, of which 7249 were obtained in 85 Tests at an average of 58·45 (almost 3000 of them against Australia). He was a fine bowler and fielder, taking 10 catches in a match against Surrey in 1928, a record that still stands. He also holds the highest average score (563) achieved in a Test series against New Zealand in 1932–3. |
