| Geographer, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He studied at the University of Chicago (1897), and became deeply influenced by Rollin D Salisbury. He taught at Chicago and Harvard, then assumed the presidency of Clark University (1920–46). He travelled on every continent and wrote much, especially in the area of physical geography. |
