biography: Brothers, leaders of the first Anglo-Saxon settlers in Britain, said by Bede to have been invited over by Vortigern, the British king, to fight the Picts in about AD 450. According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, Horsa was killed in 455, and Hengist ruled in Kent until his death in 488.
