| biography:
| Dancer and ballet director, born in Pont-L'Abbé-Lambour, W France. She made her debut with Ballets des Champs-Elysées (1945), and subsequently appeared in films and theatre as an actress and dancer. She joined Roland Petit's Ballets de Paris in 1950, later freelancing with a string of companies including London Festival Ballet (1954), American Ballet Theatre (1957), and New York City Ballet (1958–77). She then became artistic director of Paris Opéra Ballet (1977–80) and artistic co-director of the Boston Ballet in 1980. |
