| French statesman, the first president of the Fourth Republic (1947–54), born in Revel, S France. He studied law at Tolouse, and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1914, later becoming leader of the Socialist Party. He served as a minister in 1936 and 1945, and resigned from politics in 1960. |
