| Engineer and inventor, born in Murz, EC Austria. Educated as a mechanical engineer at the Technische Hochschule in Vienna, he taught at the equivalent school in Brünn from 1903. He researched turbines powered by a low head of water, and patented the turbine with variable pitch blades which now bears his name (1920) and is widely used in hydro and tidal power schemes throughout the world. |
