| Comedienne, born in Prestwich, Lancashire, NW England, UK. She studied drama at Birmingham University, and began singing her own comic songs on local radio and television while still a student. The creator of all her own sketches, songs, and stand-up routines, her bubbly personality has offered witty observations on most aspects of everyday life. Her television career began with a slot in That's Life (1976), and includes Wood and Walters (1981–2), Victoria Wood As Seen on Television (1984–7), An Audience With Victoria Wood (1988, BAFTA), and Dinner Ladies (1998–2000). In 1996 she was voted top female comedy performer by the British Comedy Awards. She frequently appears in stage revues, and she has published several books, including Up To You, Porky (1985), Mens Sana in Thingummy Doodah (1990), and Chunky (1996). |
