| Clergyman and first Indian bishop of the Anglican Church of India, Burma, and Ceylon, born in Vellalanvillai, Chennai (Madras), SE India. A firm believer in co-operation between foreign and Indian church workers, and in the development of indigenous leadership in a united Indian Church, he was appointed Bishop of Dornakal, Andhra Pradesh, in 1912. He was chairman of the National Christian Council of India, Burma, and Ceylon from 1929. |
