| Writer of Latin poetry, born in France. He became private tutor to the Dauphin, and among his historical works are Vie de Théodose-le-Grand and Mémoires sur le grands jours d'Auvergne. He then launched himself successfully into writing sermons, a sought-after literary genre at the time, producing funeral orations in an elegant style. In 1673 he became a member of the Académie Française. |
