| Pope, born in Troyes, NEC France. The son of a shoemaker, he became Bishop of Verdun (1253) and Patriarch of Jerusalem (1261). He ruled as pope in 1261–4 and was closely involved with the Guelph–Ghibelline conflict in Italy. He died in Perugia. |
