| biography:
| Cricketer, born in Farnworth, Lancashire, NW England, UK. A fast bowler, of his 17 Tests only four were played in England, and he is best remembered for his performance on the Australian tour of 1954–5 under Len Hutton. In that series he bowled at tremendous pace, having almost halved his run-up, taking 27 wickets to win the Ashes. He later found the pitches at Northampton unresponsive, and left county cricket to become a teacher, coach, and commentator in Australia. |
