| biography:
| Spanish Hebrew scholar and poet, born in Toledo, C Spain. He neglected the Hebrew traditions, and as a young man enjoyed the patronage of Alfonso X. After his flight from Toledo to Aragón and Barcelona his poems, previously profane and even licentious, became ascetic and religious. The Diwan of Tudrus, entitled Gan ha-Meshalim we ha-Hidoth, is more important for insights into its period than for its literary merit. |
