| Econometrician and economist, born in Skedsmo, SE Norway. In 1947, he became head of a division in the Norwegian ministry of commerce, and in 1948 was appointed professor of political economy and statistics at the University of Oslo. He was awarded the 1989 Nobel Prize for Economics for his contributions to developing the field of econometrics, especially methods to estimate and test quantitative relations. |
