| biography:
| Choreographer, born in Aberdeen, Washington, USA. In New York City she helped to found the experimental Judson Dance Theater in 1962. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s she created a series of original ‘equipment pieces’, where dancers were rigged in block and tackle harness to allow them to walk on walls or down the trunks of trees. She also ran an improvisational group, Grand Union (1970–6), and in the late 1970s began to work in traditional theatres, adding design and music to her pieces for the first time. |
