| biography:
| Journalist and novelist, born in Romford, Essex, SE England, UK. He first worked in a gin distillery before joining the New Musical Express as a journalist. After leaving the paper he became a roving reporter for magazines GQ and Elle, and also wrote three ‘potboiler’ novels. During the 1990s he became a newspaper columnist and a regular panellist on BBC Two's Late Review programme. His novel, Man and Boy (1998), won Book of the Year at the British Book Awards, and a further novel, One for My Baby appeared in 2001. |
