| Television and film producer, born in Birmingham, West Midlands, C England, UK. After studying psychology at London University he became an actor, then joined the BBC Drama Department in 1964 as a script editor, working on the ‘Wednesday Play’ series. As a producer he has tackled a variety of political topics and social ills, and enjoyed a long association with director Kenneth Loach on such influential television and film work as Cathy Come Home (1966) and Kes (1969). He made his directorial debut with Prostitute (1980). Now resident in Los Angeles, he has directed Handgun (1982), and returned to production on Roland Joffé's Fat Man and Little Boy (1989). He was the executive producer of television's Ballykissangel and Cops. |
