| Sports cartoonist and animator, born in Bilston, West Midlands, C England, UK. While working as a railway booking clerk in 1904, he won a newspaper cartoon contest. He joined the art staff of the Birmingham Sports Argus, and moved to the Daily Mail in 1919, introducing such sporting characters as Tishy the Racehorse. He evolved a unique style of cartoons in a free-ranging strip format with commentary. |
