| biography:
| Sculptor, born in Siena, C Italy. He probably trained in Pisa under Giovanni Pisano, and was certainly working there in 1311. In 1315 he succeeded Giovanni as master of works at Pisa Cathedral, and was commissioned to make the tomb of Emperor Henry VII. He then held an equivalent position at Siena Cathedral, and later worked in Florence, where his sepulchral monuments included that of Bishop Orso in Florence Cathedral. Around 1324 he entered the service of the Angevin rulers in Naples, and worked there on architectural projects as well as sculpture. |
