| Protestant clergyman, born in Charlestown (now part of Boston), Massachusetts, USA. He graduated from Harvard at age 17 and was ordained a pastor in the Congregational Church of Stratford, CT (1710). Appointed rector of Yale (1719), he was forced to resign three years later when he converted to the Church of England. In 1723 he became rector of Christ Church, Boston, where he remained to the end of his life. |
