| biography:
| Roman empress, the third wife of the emperor Augustus, whom she married in 39 BC after divorcing her first husband Tiberius Claudius Nero. From her first marriage she had two children: Tiberius and Nero Claudius Drusus. She was influential with Augustus, and conspired maliciously to ensure Tiberius's succession, gaining the nickname ‘Ulysses in Petticoats’. Relations with Tiberius after his accession became strained, and when she died he did not execute her will or allow her to be deified. |
