| Athenian aristocratic historian of the Peloponnesian War. Although scrupulously accurate in his narrative of events, he was not altogether unprejudiced. Exiled for 20 years by the democracy for military imcompetence in the N Aegean (424 BC), he was consistently critical of the democratic system and its leaders in the war years. |
