| biography:
| Biochemist, born in Sterling, New York, USA. She was a nutrition assistant at Cornell (1942–3), performed research in food microbiology at the University of California, Berkeley (1943–7), and was a research assistant at Harvard (1949–50) before joining the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (Bethesda, MD) in 1950. She made major advances in studies of amino acid metabolism, vitamin B12-dependent enzymes (with husband and collaborator Earl Stadtman), microbial biochemistry, and the biochemistry of selenium. |
