| Corporate executive, born in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. He taught at Harvard Business School (1942–52) after earning a PhD there. As an executive and finally president of Atlantic Richfield Co (ARCO) (1956–81), he developed a national reputation as a long-range strategic corporate planner. He was the last president of RCA (Radio Corporation of America) (1981–5), restoring its profitability before superintending its sale to General Electric. |
