| biography:
| Playwright, born in London, UK. He was probably educated at the Merchant Taylors' School, and brought up as a scrivener under his father. His tragedies early brought him reputation, especially The Spanish Tragedy (c.1589). He has been credited with a share in several plays, and may have written an earlier version (now lost) of Hamlet. Imprisoned in 1593 on a charge of atheism, he died in poverty. |
