After receiving a Harvard doctorate (1963), he taught at the University of California, Berkeley (1963–6) and Princeton (1966–80), then became a professor and department chairman at New York University. His specialties include ethics, philosophy of mind, and ancient philosophy, and among his books are Mortal Questions (1978). |
