| Writer of children's stories, born in Berkshire, S England, UK. Educated in Reading, he was a television cameraman (1947–66) before becoming a full-time writer. He created the much-loved character Paddington Bear in A Bear Called Paddington (1958), who has since featured in many books, as well as in a long-running television short cartoon. In 1983 he began a series of novels for adults relating the adventures of Monsieur Pamplemousse, such as Monsieur Pamplemousse takes the Train (1993). |
