| English Greek scholar. He became professor of Greek at Oxford in 1812, and in 1831 Dean of Christ Church. He produced editions of Herodotos, Hephaestion, Stobaeus, and Suidas. The Gaisford Prizes at Oxford for Greek prose and verse were founded in his memory in 1856. |
