| Playwright and songwriter, born in Exeter, Devon, SW England, UK. He was a prolific author, his comedies especially being popular. Among these were The Fond Husband (1676), Madame Fickle (1677), and Sir Burnaby Whig (1681). In 1683 he published his New Collection of Songs and Poems, which was followed by a long series of songs, (6 vols, 1719–20). |
