| biography:
| Educator, born in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. He directed Harvard's Master of Arts in Teaching programme (1961–4) and was dean of the graduate school of education at Harvard (1964–72). He became professor of education at Brown University (1984) and chairman of the Coalition of Essential Schools (1984). His publications include Horace's Compromise (1984) and Horace's School: Redesigning the American High School (1992). |
