| biography:
| Writer, born in Trieste, NE Italy. His work ranges from lyrical poetry with references to classical poetry and high romance, to the less accessible Das Nordlicht (1910), which is based on his own cosmic mythology in which the polarity of the sun and the moon are seen as analgous to the polarity of man and woman. His love of the Mediterranean produced vivid pieces of descriptive prose. In 1928–32 he was president of the German PEN club. |
