| Italian politician, born in Pesaro, Marche, E Italy. He participated in the Bologna risings of 1831 and was forced to leave the city. In 1847 he became first interior and then foreign minister of the Papal States. He moved to Piedmont and became a deputy (1858) and then education minister (1860–1). An enlightened Catholic, he held a positive view of humanity and a belief in divine providence. |
