| Novelist, born in Reading, S England, UK. Educated locally, she worked as a governess and librarian, and wrote her first novel, At Mrs Lippincote's (1945), while her husband was in the Royal Air Force. Her understated, shrewd observation of middle-class life in the SE of England continued with further novels, including A Wreath of Roses (1949), The Wedding Group (1968), and Blaming (1976, posthumously). |
