| Painter and poet, born in Su-chou, Kiangsu, NC China. A young genius of modest means, at 28 he went to Beijing, passing the State's Exam, which would have opened the gates to a great career in government. Accused (perhaps unfairly) of cheating, he was forced to return home. In order to survive, he started painting in a popular and decorative style for the burghers of Souchou: portraits, pretty women, and erotica. |
