| Swedish politician and prime minister (1946–69), born in Ransäter, Värmland, SWC Sweden. He studied science and sociology at Lund University, where he joined a club for student radicals. Elected an MP for the Social Democrat Party (1932), he held various ministerial posts until succeeding P A Hansson as prime minister in 1946. During his record 23 year period in office he gained respect and popularity for his political skill and acumen. |
