| Anthropologist, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. She studied at the University of Chicago and Columbia University (1963 PhD), and taught at Queens College in New York City before becoming president of the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research in 1987. A specialist in Italian peasant society, her works include Peasant Society: A Reader (1965) and Three Bells of Civilization: The Life of an Italian Hill Town (1975). |
