| biography:
| Novelist and poet, born in Kampen, NC Netherlands. He made his debut as a poet in Podium, which he edited 1952–65. With his experimental poetry he formed part of the Movement of Fifty. His prose, which he calls ‘realistic fables’, is a peculiar mixture of concrete realistic elements and fantastic elements. It is, for instance, not uncommon for his main character to die more than once and defy other laws of nature. His ideas on experimental prose were expressed in Literatuur als werkelijkheid. Maar welke? (1973, Literature as Reality. But which Reality?). In addition, he wrote children's books and plays. |
