| King of Denmark (c.985–1014) and England (1013–14), the son of Harold Blue-tooth, and the father of Canute. He first attacked England in 994, and had broken the back of English resistance by 1012. During his final campaign in 1013, he established mastery over the whole country and was recognized as king, while Ethelred the Unready withdrew to exile in Normandy. |
