| British actress, born in London. She was educated in London, made her stage debut in Expresso Bongo (1958), and has since taken leading roles in numerous plays and films. She won Emmy awards for best actress as Fleur in the television series The Forsyte Saga (1970), Sarah Churchill in The First Churchills (1971), and Becky Sharp in Vanity Fair (1973). Later series include The Grand (1997–8) and Monarch of the Glen (2000). She published a volume of autobiography, Susan's Story in 1981, in which she writes about her problems with dyslexia, and is also known for her series of Lucy Jane books. |
