| Snooker player, born in Edinburgh. He became a professional in 1985, won the Scottish championship in 1986, and went on to dominate the game in the 1990s. His wins include seven Embassy world championships (1990, 1992–6, 1999), and he holds the record for the most titles won in a season (9 in 1991–2). In 1997–8 he won his 29th ranking event, beating the career record previously held by Steve Davis, but lost his No 1 world record ranking position to John Higgins. |
