| Religious painter, born in Meersburg am Bodensee, SW Germany. He may have studied in the Netherlands before settling in Cologne c.1440, where he became the principal master of the Cologne school, marking the transition from the Gothic style to Naturalism. His best-known work is the great triptych, ‘Adoration of the Kings’, in Cologne Cathedral. |
