| Pope (741–52), born in San Severino, EC Italy, of Greek parents. By recognizing Pepin III as King of the Franks (752), he established the link between the papacy and the Carolingian empire. He is best known in the East for his translation into Greek of the Dialogues of Pope Gregory the Great. Feast day 15 March. |
