| biography:
| Anglo-Saxon missionary, born in Wessex, England. A Benedictine monk, he taught in the monastery of Nursling near Romsey. He set out in 718 to preach the Gospel to all the tribes of Germany, assisting Willibrord (719–22), and was consecrated Bishop (723), Archbishop, and Primate of Germany (732). He was killed at Dokkum by heathens. Feast day 5 June. |
