| The first Christian martyr (Acts 6–7). He was one of the seven chosen to manage the finances and alms of the early Church, and was possibly one of the Hellenists. Charged by the Jewish authorities for speaking against the Temple and the Law, he was tried by the Sanhedrin, and stoned to death by the crowds in Jerusalem. Feast day 26 December. |
